What is Strong Asian Lead?
Strong Asian Lead is a nonprofit resource center for Asian Americans in film, television, and streaming. We build community through networking meetups and share resources so that anyone interested in entering the entertainment industry has the tools and community to support their careers.
We do this by holding monthly meetups, hosting panels, and providing a free online resource database for everyone to have access to the tools they need to develop their careers.
Other initiatives we provide are things like our podcast, career development, and studio consulting.
Our membership has so much to offer, we can’t fit it into this space.
Studios rely on big names on screen or behind the camera, but fail to see the value of new writers and allocating the proper budget to uplift these stories, regardless of the cast’s popularity.
The importance of authentic Asian Pacific representation in Hollywood is one that cannot be overlooked.
The problem: Writers aren’t given the proper attention or encouragement to write at a professional level, thus have a significantly harder time finding a manager and getting studios to greenlight new stories.
Fewer stories means fewer opportunities to cast actors and fewer productions overall, leading to continued stereotyped content.
Our solution: Free and low cost education and networking events for artists breaking into the industry and corporate conversations to dismantle stereotypes and misconceptions in order to build a more inclusive industry.
